Hello. I've been pulling for almost 3 years now but it's gotten much worse in the past year. I really want to shave my head, and I've seen a-lot of people with TTM do so, but I'm scared my mother will be upset. How should I bring up the topic of shaving my head to my mother?

I would tell her you think keeping your hair as short as possible would keep you from pulling, and make it easier to get into the habit of not pulling. I do this myself, I used to pull my armpit hair out and so I shaved it and now i can let it grow without the urge

Hi Romeo!! I have a shaved head, I razor shave it so it’s smooth. I have for at least… 4 years now? 5 maybe? I first went bald in middle school and was bald throughout high school (and now college). Middle schoolers are mean, but if you have a good head on your shoulders you’ll be fine! If it’s something you want to try, try it! It’s just hair… it’s not the end of the world. Hair grows back, life goes on, and it goes on with or without hair. If you genuinely think it would help, or has even the slightest possibility of relieving you of the constant urges and anxiety trich brings, I would sit down with your Mom and tell her (rather than ask) that you are gong to shave your head for your self care.

The worst thing that can happen is you will get grounded if you are a minor living with your parents, but really that’s a selfish thing to do on part of your parents if that’s what happens. You need to empathize that you WANT to do this and you BELIEVE it can HELP you!
