I have a bad swallow problem. I cough and choke every time I eat or drink anything. It's embarrassing cuz everyone asks me if I'm okay. How can I improve my swallowing to not aspirate with every swallow?

doing swallowing exercises every day helps a lot! when my dysphagia was at its worst i would also blend up my meals. it wasn’t the tastiest to eat but it helped it go down. i went to a swallow therapist too. i’d recommend meeting with one.

Tuck chin to chest when swallowing. I am chewing my food longer and slower. It seems to help some.

Something that helps me is leaning forward so nothing can go back until I actually swallow. And swallowing hard when I do swallow. I don’t drink thin drinks, like water on its own will go back too easily. I did get an endoscopy where they stretched out my throat a little and that helps some. Seeing a speech therapist doctor would probably help you get a lot of info too. Hope that helps!
