I can't believe they turned you away. I work at a hospital and we accept everyone whether they have a previous history or not. We make sure they have a 1:1 sitter and have a hospital room until they are either mentally cleared for discharge or a placement has been made for a mental hospital. I would definitely continue to seek help.
Technically if you say that you need to go in with intentions of self harm or harming others they have to. Or at least put you in a private lock down room till they have a bed in the mental area. When I went to the er and talked about my thoughts they said either I could self admit or they could bring me in with handcuffs. I picked self admit. But due to the high volume of people at the time they had to put me in a self isolated room on watch till they had a room available the next day.
