The last thing I have to say to a loved one of mine before they leave to go anywhere whether just to the grocery store or for a walk or just in general is "I love you" and I have to hear them say it back just in case something bad happens and I don't see them again that is the last thing we said to each other. If I don't do that I feel a deep sense of dread.

I do this too, but I can’t bear to say “I love you” because I’m not on very good terms with my family. Every time I have an argument with them I get scared it might be the last thing I’ll ever say to them. I had this horrible mindset since I was a child to detach myself from my parents so I’ll miss them less when they die :(

I also experience this, and never thought to connect it to OCD. Do you think it's compulsive or simply just anxiety? It's weird seeing things I've always thought were normal in this new light

@thatonegaygal Many people have compulsions or intrusive thoughts but it doesn't mean you necessarily have OCD. 🙂

I struggle with this too. I also have a routine before I go to bed or leave the house to make sure that the stove knobs are on the off position in fear that carbon monoxide could possibly poison me and my family.

Holy crap, I thought I was the only one! I know why for me. I said I love you every single time I left my grammas hospital room until the one time I didn't- she died. My biggest regret in life. But I always say I love you whether it be talking on the phone or in person. I always have to make sure they say it back and I will repeat it until they say it back. Especially my mom. Always with my mom. A lot of times I call my mom (on the car speaker) and talk to her while I drive anywhere in case I get in an accident, I can hear her voice. I don't ever want that to happen with my mom. I'm right there with you. Something so small and turns into this, OCD is a big jerk.

@E_belli omg the reason I have to is because my grandmother (who was like a mother to me) went to the hospital and we were apparently gonna see her the next day but died the night before ND I never got to say goodbye and it's haunted me ever since

@micah_1234 yes yes. It’s something you never forget. Changes you. I’m really sorry about your grandma. No matter how long it has been, you’ll never forget her. It’s been 16 years for me and I miss her everyday.

I feel the same! I have OCD. I only say it when I am leaving the house but I do sometimes say it when going to bed.

Is this a behavior you would like to change, is the dread debilitating?

      • micah_1234

@SunInAugust definitely it makes it hard to be okay away from them and if I don't and they don't respond to my texts or something I get stressed

@micah_1234 have you tried some ERP?

I do that too. I have OCD. Even before going to bed. I live with my Mom.

@Sunshineseeker90 yeah I do that too
