To all the women out there, I have a question about being on the pill and dealing with thyroid issues? I have been on the pill for heavy periods for over six years. I was diagnosed with hoshimotos disease back in April and my menstrual cycle has been horrific ever since. Doctors told me that because I had an overactive thyroid I was burning through the pill too fast for it to work. I went two months with a period and unfortunately I am one of those have to leave work during their period kind of people. My TSH leveled out some since then but I still have a period for a month every other month and random bleeding all the time. I've been considering just going off the pill entirely since I do not use it as a contraceptive to see if I can become regular again. My gyno just informally diagnosed me with endometriosis and said the pill would help. I am at a crazy crossroads unsure of what to do and appreciate anything at this point!

Your GYN has a point. Heavy bleeding and endometriosis are treated with the pill. From what i know, birth control pills can affect the thyroid function if there is an underlying disease. Have you tried other types of contraceptives?

@Hermione I have heard that also. I have been on four different kinds of the pill. They switched them up so often that my body often just bleeds for months because it takes 3 to 6 months to get used to each different kind of pill. Really not sure what else to do being the endometriosis is treated with the pills.
