Does anyone else have slow processing for any kind of information/emotion/sensory input? It’s really had a huge affect on my mental health, and life in general, but I just feel like I keep getting left behind over and over again. Any experiences to share or advice on managing the extra sad on top of sad about this?

@SalineTurnip that’s so good you have a sibling who can look things over and explain them to you. I often wonder how I was so successful in school as well, when now I can’t even remember words that I use very frequently. But also, sometimes I can still read research papers and get the gist of them and feel familiar with psychology jargon and concepts. So I guess it’s just another example of the spiky skill set I have as an autistic person. I just wish it was more evened out sometimes.

This happens to me sometimes with processing information. I'll have to read something over and over and I still won't get it. Then I'll try reading a few words at a time. If that doesn't work, I'll ask my sib to explain it to me. It makes me wonder how I got through school AND got good grades.

yup yup yup. there is always such a constant strain that it puts on my relationships because i always realize that the way i acted in the moment was not the correct thing to do and i completely misunderstood the entire interaction. it constantly feels like you’re living life 10 minutes behind everyone around you. in general, i try to not make any hasty decisions or blurt anything that comes into my mind quickly. i tend to not completely process my words or actions for a little bit, and giving myself time for a longer evaluation period helps me make sure i am thinking everything i do through

@maddus thank you so much for sharing your experience! Slowing down is such a good thing to remember in general, I think, and it feels good knowing there’s solidarity in that.
