Need advice on hernia surgery

hello just starting on this app. i’ve just had these maladies due to age i guess. i’ve always been very strong and able to work intensely but this time it got me in the neck and my abdomen. the herniated disc will repair with time and my compliance im told. but the hernia needs surgery. i need some advice regarding hernia surgery. if anyone hears hernia they immediately advice “don’t get the mesh!! yet there is no dependable alternative that i can find. i could really use some advice and hear someone’s experience as i am battling with suddenly not being able to do anything. i was an avid boxer and trained every day. i need help from someone that knows more than me. thank you
