So this one is more for my fellow people with both ADHD and Autism but does anyone else struggle with the more boring parts of their routine? For example I started walking/jogging for an hour everyday recently to get some exercise in but after the first week I noticed I was getting extremely bored of it. I do have other means of exercise at my disposal that I enjoy but I despise the idea of having to change anything in my already set routine. It happens a lot with school/studying too. Any tips for dealing with this?
I'm not sure if this will work for you but I find self care extremely boring so I'll over hype it. Like if I have to take a shower the next day I treat it like a big event so I'll be excited to shower!
Usually I’m a very big complainer so I’ll try and see if hyping myself up ahead of time makes any difference!! Definitely need more of that positivity in my life.
Muuuuuuuuuusic! A set of songs or a specific genre for each task can also get boring but sometimes it helps a lot getting your mind and body on the same page. I used to listen to country music and bluesy country music to do my homework in high school, I would open my books and turn on the music and suddenly be in math and science mode. Although I now despise modern country music, it was relatively helpful at the time!
Oh man, I love music but i haven’t tried limiting myself to certain genres for certain tasks yet, it might help with getting in the “zone”, I’ll write it down for later! Thank you!
It made it hard for me to work a job because I would start dissociating on the job. Singing helped me be grounded though many people didn’t want me singing all day, but yea, music for sure helps me!
Honestly, the only thing that helps me, it's music and maybe a partner who I love to talk to. I can walk and talk with my best friend all day...but just walking...I hate jogging and running honestly...there's no way I can do that without getting bored because I can't jog and talk
SAME, honestly most of my jogging has been walking because I always feel like I’m low on energy but being able to talk without dying is a huge plus too
I’ll look into the imagining tip though, I think we used to have a zombie related app that did a similar thing though I think what holds me back from truly running rn is just energy in general, I always feel like I have very little even in the morning
Switch it up every now and then! Try jogging in the morning one day and then in the afternoon the next day, or switch to doing it every second day instead of everyday.
I crave routine/structure but also get bored very easily if it's the same thing over and over.
