I have been feeling really put of place recently at graduate school. I had a horrible endo flare up for the past 5 months and had to work from home because I couldn't walk or sit. After excision surgery and the removal of the ovarian cyst, I feel better physically, but I feel like I don't relate to other people my age and feel so out of place. People just don't understand how bad this was and I feel alone.

šŸ¤— It's so easy to feel so isolated in uni! Perhaps try connecting with them with a common denominator first (like you both love board games, Thai takeout, and video games, or share some of the same classes) and if you feel like they don't understand, maybe they will understand it from the concept of it being major surgery. There are also plenty of people out there that go through awful pain and surgery, and will understand, like a friend of mine has had a lot of heart surgeries. You can't tell from looking at her though! Maybe just relax if you can and be gentle with them and yourself and try not to assume either way that they do or don't understand the pain you're going through. Survivors come in many different shapes from many different places. šŸ¤— And maybe it can be okay if they can't understand if they're not being mean about it? You can probably still enjoy their company, right? Maybe a distraction is what you need sometimes? I hope you meet someone really awesome soon and you guys really hit it off! Best of luck!
