anyone know how to cope in a healthy way that isn’t mindfulness or some peaceful shit like. when i get upset it goes straight to suicidal thoughts, all i want to do is self harm or abuse drugs. but i have a loving boyfriend now and doing any of that shit would break his heart. i don’t know how else to cope without violently sobbing

Art is a fucking lifesaver dude. Writing, painting, spraypainting, digital art, clay, whatever medium you find yourself enjoying. Personally, writing is the most beneficial for me. Perhaps I’m a more materialistic person than a lot of people, because I don’t find that the same thing helps a lot of others, but collecting stuffed animals or cute clothes or cute figures, or whatever you find yourself enjoying, decorating your room, literally one of the best things for me. Playing video games, also useful. I used to just hop on Rainbow Six Siege with a group of friends and run casual matches, and it was genuinely some of the best experiences I ever had. Find a place to go. Like I said, maybe I’m just insanely materialistic, but going to malls when I still lived in a bigger city was really fun. Bonus points if you’re with people you can have a giggle with. 100% I’m here if you ever need it. I had this same shit going on for me for a while, and it feels as though I have to drag myself to find or reuse coping mechanisms every once in a while. Send a DM if u need anything or just wanna talk, and good luck with recovery

for me i like to write down how i'm feeling when i'm really upset or distract myself until i'm not upset and then read over it to see if it's still worth bringing up or saying. for bpd the emotions are very very intense but very short lived, so if you distract yourself long enough the feelings will have decreased in intensity. when i want to hurt myself i set a 20 minute timer and say that i am going to try to calm down and if that doesnt work i can do whatever i want. i am always much calmer by the end of the 20 minutes
