I have a problem with my diet I eat too many carbohydrates I don't exercise and I'm retired. what do y'all do to keep up your health and watch your diet?

My doctors don't like it when I mention it, but I have the bloodwork (and bathroom scale) to prove it works. I went back on it this fall when, besides tingling in my feet (Type 2), I was getting it in my arms and hands and the stabbing pains😥 - I was, uh-oh that was a fun summer eating white rice and sweet corn on the cob, and desserts and pies. It's over now!
Exercise is great for your cardiovascular system but keto diet is best for weight loss and management of diabetes.

I'm retired now and was lucky enough to work from home during the lockdowns. When someone asked what I did (besides work), I realized all I did most of the day was sit on my couch with my laptop. My knees were aching so much I needed to buy a brace. We have a literal home gym of all the machines I've bought over the years, used, and then abandoned. We have a partially finished basement and one day my husband organized all the exercise books, DVDs, equipment, paneled the walls, and, well. I have zero excuse. So after that texted conversation, I went back in that room and started with 20 minutes of pilates movement (bought a machine cheap off a home show on TV), added weights, now I've added floor exercises and it's usually 45-50 minutes every other day. I have the TV on, could listen to music if I wanted, etc. I just turned 69 and do not move, walk, or look like someone that age because I don't move "old". I was literally becoming disabled especially my knees. I will if I stop exercising. I lost 35 lbs so far by following the Keto dirty, which is a carb restricted one. I'm not strict with it. When I was years ago. I got my A1C down to 5.5 (from over 6.0) and got my cholesterol into the normal range from high). I didn't get my A1C down as much this time and my triglycerides are high again. My husband walks twice a day and lifts weights in the morning. Pre pandemic he went to the gym everyday (10 years retired before me). My suggestion is start with 10-15 minutes. Then gradually add more exercises. I track my exercise ins fault diary and I use LifeSum to track what I eat and count my carbs. You want to get down under 100 day. True keto is really low, less that 30. All kinds of YouTube keto chefs. Ideas for food. Amazon sells some low keto recipe books, etc. We've also cut back on salt because of hubby's kidney stones. Stay slow until it becomes habit and you actually feel "weird"of you don't exercise. I'm working my way back up to doing aerobics again. I was up toa full hour without breaking a sweat. Good luck of you want any links to books or keto YouTubers, let me know! I forgot to add i always teach myself languages to keep my brain cells working. At retirement age we start worrying about losing our minds. One of them is called Esperanto and is the easiest to learn. I take zoom classes with students from all over the world.
I guess with age comes wisdom? (Questionable I guess) I changed to veganism..I started donating my insulin shots to the poor. Eating vegetables made a wonderful change in my life. My diabetes reversed.
