I've been struggling with my identity for a while now, I've read recently that depression can be a cause of this, which is sort of a relief in a way because I've been worried that it could be a personality disorder which I'm hoping it isnt. Has anyone had any similar experiences with identity crises?

During my darkest periods of depression it's easy to forget who I actually am. I usually pull myself back by writing
depression can definitely make it hard to understand who you are as a person, for many reasons. i used to wonder who i was before the depression, or who i would be if i ever got better, and it made it difficult to know who i was then. not only that, but severe depression can really cloud your perspective on most things, even yourself and your self worth
when my depression was severe i often didnt know who i was or who i wanted to be. i occasionally have episodes like that still but its gotten a lot better with therapy and medication and talking with trusted people in my life.
