How do I know when it’s time to get a mobility aid? I feel like having a rollator or a wheelchair would drastically improve my life when my pain is unmanageable, and I’m lucky enough to have access to them, but I have a good amount of time where I wouldn’t need them as well. I also work a manual labor job and I can push through and manage that with joint braces. I guess I just feel really guilty if I get one. It feels like I’ll be taking it from someone who needs it more since I won’t need it half the time anyways. I’m really struggling to come to a decision here.

I’m in the same boat, I’m starting to come to terms with the fact that I may need one, but my family doesn’t want me to look “visibly disabled”. My therapist says not to listen to them, but I’m nervous to speak up about what I need

i love my mobility aids, i have a walker and a cane depending on what i need and sometimes i use none:) it took my friend who’s a nurse talking to me about how a walker would be helpful for me to get one. i felt guilty until she told me it was time. but it has made my life so much better!

My wheelchair has given me such a higher quality of life, and I barely use it. But if I didn’t have it, I would miss out on so many things; amusement parks, vacations, and lots of fun places would be out of the question. When I’m in my wheelchair I don’t have to focus on my energy/holding my body up and I can enjoy what’s going on around me. I strongly recommend you get an aid if you’re considering it, because it will only make things easier for you, and you should never feel guilty for that. Also, you will not be taking it from someone else; I don’t think there is a shortage in the supply :)

i have fibro. all my doctors have told me it would be harmful to my condition if i used an aid. i finally began using a cane and i fall a lot less and it helps me with my pain and stiffness. it helps me get around and im glad i have it.

Someone once told me, if you are asking this question it’s time. You know your body best, if you think it would help then go for it. The only thing stopping you is you.
