Hello! Anyone here diagnosed with BPD but have been told you specifically fit the discouraged or "quiet" subtype by your therapist/psychiatrist/whoever diagnosed you? Havent really met or spoken to anyone who fits this and would like to! :)

I’m someone with “quiet” bpd, but as a small child I was more prone to being a “typical” case I would suppose?? I don’t like how stigmatized bpd is to be seen as being a very aggressive and outward disorder so much so that being a “quiet” bpd person is seen as an entirely different diagnosis when really it’s just a difference in expression. Everything I feel is inward, and I take out everything on myself(people with “quiet” bpd, research found, are more prone to drug abuse and self harm) so I now fit every criteria except the uncontrollable anger outbursts portion instead it’s anger that I bring onto myself. It’s very exhausting

I definitely have that form! I am not known to express my feeling outwardly often so I at first didn’t really fit the criteria but realized my rage and abandonment issues are still there they are just quiet (internal) 😉

My therapist never settled on a subtype, she was focused in on "fixing" me, so we never got in depth to talk about it. But I largely believe I fit the quiet subtype and the petulant subtype. I tend to flip flop between those two, but I'm mostly quiet

I go back and forth with my bpd... 💕 I don't always fit one mold.. for the longest time they thought I had bipolar... And then I fought for someone to listen and they actually took the time to diagnose me properly and the treatment has been a huge help.. if you ever need someone to talk to my inbox is open!! And don't ever feel like you are alone with this!

@MeRiCa I hate how they do that.. I have literally detailed daily mood swings from happy to raging to suicidal to content in a single day and still left the psych hospital with a bipolar diagnosis. It feels like doctors don't even know that BPD exists, and believe bipolar is a coverall for mood swings. I still don't have BPD on my record even though it was my very first diagnosis at 14 and I tell every doctor I see that I don't have bipolar disorder, but BPD.

I have not been fully diagnosed, my psych asked me to read a book on it first, but I fit this type. My sister is also BPD but she is the exact opposite, kind of "all eyes on me" attention seeking type.

@MangoNari did she suggest a specific book? Ive never found any that are about it and id enjoy reading one if there was!

@froggysaur yes, "I Hate You, Don't Leave me" and "Borderline Personality Disorder Demystified". I am reading the first one now, and so far it sounds just like me. When my psych told me the name of the book, I actually cried, the title itself struck me.
