How do you handle that feeling where everything in your chest is tight and hurts and all you want to do to help relieve it is cut or burn or some other kind of SH? I don't do it btw but I'm soaking my pillow in tears trying not to. I have no reason to feel so depressed, I'm very happy and happy with where I am, but it creeps up on me sometimes and I just can't get through it well. Sometimes I cry so hard I throw up.

@CalicoBanshee I’m not sure what your age is, state you’re in, or what your financial situation is, but in California there are county mental health clinics that offer services for free if you qualify financially. When I was diagnosed with my chronic autoimmune illnesses, I was put on SSDI (disability) which automatically qualified me for Medicare, so I’m fortunate to have it covered. There are programs out there. Cuddle that kitty, and know you are fortunate to have a loving husband that listens to you. When I got sick, mine bailed. 😒 I encourage you to ask your primary doc to help you find what mental health services are available to you. ❤️

My therapist gave some advice when having thoughts of self harm and that's physically holding an ice cube, or multiple depending on how long the thoughts last, bc its not inflicting long lasting dangerous pain just making a slight cold burn/numbing feeling on your fingers. Also if it's not late at night going for a walk and changing scenery/ going for a run feeling cold or hot air and other grounding techniques

@134340trbl I hope these help some and it does get better, the best thing to do when it comes to self harm (if you already have started to/tried to or even if u haven't) is look for (non dangerous) alternatives or other coping skills like a really REALLY cold shower for maybe 2 minutes, depression is something that takes some effort to fight but the battle CAN be won. Progress with depression/anxieties CAN and WILL be made.

I do have a calico cat that I love dearly and usually my husband is sleeping beside me. I do talk to him about it in the morning. I don't have a therapist, insurance won't cover that or the only migraine medication that's ever worked for me

My main point is that feeling alone in your pain only amplifies the pain. Find ways to reach out to others or cuddle up with your pet. 🫶🏼 you are not alone.

Dear one, I struggle with overwhelming depression and at times it seems like nothing will help… but SH doesn’t help either. I encourage you to reach out for support before it gets so bad. Do you have any family member or close friend who knows how hard it gets, that would be there to comfort you when you feel that space coming on? Do you have a therapist? I don’t think I could get through my darkest days without mine. And…believe it or not, my cat. Do you have a pet? Shifting you focus outside of yourself (like focusing on a pet’s needs or comfort) is definitely a method of self comfort and distraction from my physical and mental pain. Sending hugs and support to you.
