For anyone who's struggling to find a good medication for anxiety, you might discuss fluvoxamine (Luvox) with your doctor. It's an antidepressant, an SSRI, but it gets overlooked because it's not very effective for major depression and it's categorized as being for OCD due to that being the clinical trial that got it FDA approval. But I've tried all sorts of medications for my anxiety and fluvoxamine is the only one that's worked for me, and a few other people I know have tried it and it's been very helpful for them too. I wish more doctors knew about it because it's been wonderful for me.

my husband has anxiety, panic disorder, and depression. He tried celexa, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and Abilify, and none of them worked, he just kept getting worse, and finally I told him to ask for fluvoxamine, and they prescribed it, and it worked for him too! Hallelujah. One thing to note is the dosing is different than most other SSRIs. I'm taking 100 mg, but I've been on 250 before. The max dose is 400 mg. My husband is on 200 mg, that's a pretty normal dose. I'd say try 200 mg before giving up on it. Luckily it works pretty quickly, you should probably see improvement the first week, if not the first few days.

Sadly SSRI's don't work for me according to trial and error + genetic testing

@spicysugar where did you get the testing done. And what are the results like, does it actually compare different medications for you?

This is very interesting. I’ve had general anxiety and panic disorder on and off for the last 10 years. I used to take Celexa but about two years ago started on Prozac and worked great for the first year and a half or so then a few months ago seems to have become less effective. I don’t feel like I have any depression but the anxiety is far from where I want it to be. Was just talking with my doctor about choices yesterday. There’s so many. I’ve heard SSNRI’s can be more targeted towards anxiety as well. But of course the main problem with any of us struggling with anxiety is medication options just give me more anxiety.
