i am extremely terrified. i have a dentist appointment tomorrow to get a tooth pulled. this tooth has been rotting away for years due to my bulimia, as well as my lack of hygiene from sensory issues and major depression. i'm nearly 22 years old, and i've never had a tooth pulled before. i don't even have a single doubt about it, or a thought of it going wrong- i'm just deathly scared of the excruciating pain my severe sensory issues will put me through. not only do my sensory issues cause pain, but it causes my brain to panic when i am numbed. i honestly do not know how i will react to this happening. since i easily dissociate, the stress of all of this will trigger me to hell and back. i do not know how to calm myself for this appointment; i feel as if i will burst into tears the moment i walk in the door. please give me some advice or comfort!

Ask for valium or demerol. I have to have it anytime I have dental work done or I literally can't stay in the chair. If you have ASD it may even be able to be considered a medical necessity l. Unfortunately I have to pay for it, but it was worth the extra money. It was the only way I was getting my tooth pulled and it was already half gone from rotting. I took a nice nap, woke up without a tooth, and was nice and goofy for a couple hours while my mom took care of me then I was good as new.

Wear comfortable clothes, take some comfort items, even consider taking a support person. Discuss with your dentist steps that can be taken to reduce your anxiety. My periodontist let me wear headphones and that really helped me
Praying for you because I suffered through the same thing
I’ve had teeth pulled and a lot of dental surgery.. if it makes you feel any better, these people have pulled many, many teeth and the likelihood of complications is slim. It likely will ache for a bit, but the relief you’ll feel is worth it. Ask if you’ll have laughing gas or just general anesthesia, and explain you have anxiety and ask if you can have a comfort plushie or for them to use numbing gel over shots if that would help. Prepare to be in pain for a few days, but I promise it won’t be as bad as you’re anticipating.
I recently went though the same thing. I have an extremely fear if the dentist. Sensory issues add to it a ton. I asked my primary care for a one dose of Xanax to help get me though my tooth pulling. That helped a lot. And I asked for extra numbing shots and that gave me a second one. Thankfully getting a tooth pulled happens really quick compared to other procedures like root canals. It was done with in 5 mins tops. Probably more like 3 mins. The dentist could tell I was really nervous and ask the receptionist to come in and hold my hand which was really nice and helpful.
