Sometimes it takes a combination of meds to work. I'm on 90 mg of cymbalta and had to add Buspirone to help with mine

Doc put me on Zyban. It's extremely hard to get on it over here in the UK, and its sadly not covered by the NHS. Absolutely ridiculous that I have to pay out of my pocket to get this medication. However, the Vensir + Zyban work for me.

This sounds like such a horrible situation to have your doc talk to you like that. I am so sorry. 🫂 Have you tried any combinations such as mood stabilizers or antipsychotics along with the antidepressant? Just as a personal example, antidepressants alone do not help me either. So I'm taking a combo of Venlafaxine, Lamotrigine and Aripiprizole. Also if you're able to find a DBT group or therapist, I highly recommend it. This type of therapy legitimately saved my life and it's proven to help many patients who have had difficulties finding relief. Wishing you the best, again I'm sorry you were treated so poorly.
Venlafaxine is indeed one of the best antidepressants out there, but that doesn't mean it works for everyone. There's a whole new wave of novel treatments coming that I am anxiously waiting to become available, in particular with psychedelics, which seem to be extremely effective. I think the recommendations you got from this group sound very good - find a different GP who will be more sympathetic, if you can afford it go directly to a psychiatrist, and definitely try to do some therapy as well. It does help! Maybe something like betterhelp will be cheaper than a private therapist...

Your doctor is very misinformed. There are 7 SSRIs. You may benefit from a tricyclic antidepressant. If I were you, I'd demand your GP refers you to a community mental health team so a nurse can have you assessed by a psychiatrist
I'd get a new gp and a pyschiatrist/psychologist and find a better anti depressant. I know it sounds horrible going through another round of anti depressants but what might work for me might do the complete opposite for you. "It's the best tablet" yeah that might be for Bob but are you bob? No. You're a completely different person and anti depressants aren't one box fits all. It took me 4 years to find the right combo of meds and I'm still not certain that the combo is fully working. Your gp might increase your dose or change meds but I hope you find the right combination for you. I'm on Amitriptyline and duoloxetine which work well for me but as I said earlier may not work well for you

Hi! I take duloxetine and am on the NHS. My mental health nurse gave me various different options and I've been through quite a few of them too. Propanalol, sertraline, ecitalipram, venlafaxine to name a few. And even now I'm thinking of switching because I'm getting bad acid reflux from duloxetine.
There's way more than 7 meds for depression. First-line treatment is sertraline, citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine, & paroxetine. Second-line includes the SNRIs (like venlafaxine, duloxetine, & desvenlafaxine), TCAs (amitriptyline, desiprimamine, nortryptiline, & trazodone) & mirtazapine. Last-line are mood stabilizers (lamotrigine, carbamazapine/oxcarbazepine, & valproic acid/valproate/divalproex sodium), atypical antipsychotics (quetiapine, aripiprazole, olanzapine, risperidone, cariprazine, ziprasidone, brexpiprazole, & lurasidone) and MAOIs, which I don't know the name of. My point is: there are countless meds that are indicated for depression. If your doctor says there's only seven, they're wrong; find a new and better one.

I'm on sertraline, and have been on and off since 2008. When I've been off ... I've ended up similar to how you are now. When 1st taking it, it can make you feel rough for a few weeks, but it's definitely worth persisting. Hope you find something soon
Sertraline is helping me

I'm taking Fluoxetine, also known as Prozac but SSRI's have a drastic, maybe lifelong side effect of inorgasmia. There is a BBC documentary on SSRI's called The Antidepressant Story. I really recommend you watch that before taking anything. Good luck on your journey out of depression. Sending lots of love.

He says you've been on them all. Thing is I'm known well for things working great for a while I get used to stuff fast. So I asked if I cud have a break from venaflaxine n go on another for few weeks.he said no. As for withdrawals I don't get them so I goy myself from 4 to 1 without knowing...my carer does my meds n promised she wud lower but I didn't wanna no wen n I got to 1 without realising . The only drug I've every in 18years had withdrawals for is tramadol... And I was on a very high dose n a diff gp said "just stop taking them" I was so bad they gave me a pethidine injection
I was on citalopram for a good few years (at 20mg, later 40mg) and it worked for me, but stopped being effective after about 8years on it. I'm now on fluoxetine (currently 40mg) and I think it's helping me stay stable. I also tried sertraline and it didn't help and made me nauseous. Different things work for different people so go get a GP that helps you to try other things xx hope you feel a bit better soon
You need a new doctor. I was on venlafxine and it worked, until it didn’t. The side effects of withdrawal from venlafaxine and also Pristiq are terrible. I’m currently on 450mg Wellbutrin and 5mg Abilify, and I’m doing better. There are also other types of treatment for depression if oral meds aren’t helping. Ketamine therapy is becoming a thing over here in the States; I don’t know about where you live. Could be worth looking into.
I've not long moved onto Sertraline, it was actually just increased today! So far, it's not helping at all.
@UnicornDust If it hasn't been long, give it a chance, it can take a while to work. I've been on sertraline a few years now and this far it is helping
There may be only certain ones you can have depending on what other medication you are on. Mirtazapine is one a friend of mine takes, she struggled to find one that worked too.
I'm on 225 (upped recently) of venlafaxine but have recently started going to a counsellor as I was the same!!! So far the mix of both seems to slowly helping me xx
@ClareBear I take 4x75mg a day
Sorry to hear you are struggling. I take Citalopram and it helps me significantly, combined with talk therapy and hypnotherapy.
I take Citalopram, 20mg daily if that helps at all
Venlafaxine. Great, need to take routinely, missing one or two has negative side affects like insomnia and vertigo.
@Dizz and the “brain thumps!”
@Dizz Read full post sorry, maybe need some talking therapy along side. x
@Dizz had that cbt, therapist ..not for me
