i have severe anxiety & while my medicine and therapy helps a bit, i was wondering if anyone had other tips to help keep my anxiety down and to focus on building up confidence as my college is in a very large city + said city can feel like a lot to handle at some points, plus im heading back in the fall after a semester off because my mental health got to a very low point so i have a bunch of anxiety surrounding being back at school after a couple of months away and making friends/maintaining the friends i already have after being away.

      Taking days where you know you are going to do something you feel uncomfortable is important. Exposure therapy! Although exploring a new place in the city or talking to a new person or old friends may give you anxiety before or during after it will make you realize the worst things you were imagining happening that gave your the anxiety didn’t and given time it will get easier. Now, during if you are experiencing anxiety, do things that calm you down in the moment to realize you are okay your doing great and it’s not so bad you can look at the good parts of it. This can be something like naming things in your head that you see around you.

      I've found out that box breathing helps a bit with my anxiety, perhaps it could help you. It helps reset the nervous system and make the brain calm down a bit. (At least that's what my friend told me lol) Another option you can try is to have a comfort item/hobby that you can take with you. I like to draw in a notepad when i get anxious. It gives me a moment to step back and not worry sometimes. Granted these things may not work, since everyone is different,but hopefully one of these methods help :)
