is it like morally okay for me to use a cane without my doctor giving me one? i am in almost constant pain due to my hips being twisted and a cane helps me when my knees and hips are weak and it puts less pressure on my joints on bad days. is it okay for me to be using a cane i just don’t want to be rude or offensive

If it helps you, it’s FOR you. If it makes you sad, consider looking for a fun one!

Make sure your cane is at a good height! You want make sure your shoulder isn’t elevating too much when you’re holding onto it or else that might start hurting too! Aim for about your wrist height when you have your arms down by your side!

Absolutely yes! It's there to help you. You can buy it at a store, it's not a prescription. You don't need permission! Anyone can use one; whether it's temporary, some times, all the time, or permanent.

Absolutely. As soon as I started having trouble walking, I went to Walmart and bought one for $10. If someone has a problem with me being crippled, that’s their problem.

Of course! My cane makes it much easier and safer to get around in public. You don’t need external input to do what is comfortable for you and your body.

I have a cane that I bought for my excruciating hip pain and plan on getting a wheelchair soon as well. It's absolutely okay to use mobility aids without your doctor giving you one/recommending one

I use my cane that wasn’t given or recommended by a doctor but it helps so much! I just found it at a thrift store for a great price. If it helps, use it! It’s not rude or offensive to use what genuinely helps. If anyone has a problem with that then that’s on them being ableist. Never feel bad for taking care of yourself!
