absolutely ok!! lots of people utilise mobility aids without recommendation from doctors. if it helps you, it’s for you! this goes for braces, canes, wheelchairs, and more

Fuck yes it's normal! They sell those suckers at cvs ffs. I sticker bombed mine and use it nudge people that get in my way.

I use my cane that wasn’t given or recommended by a doctor but it helps so much! I just found it at a thrift store for a great price. If it helps, use it! It’s not rude or offensive to use what genuinely helps. If anyone has a problem with that then that’s on them being ableist. Never feel bad for taking care of yourself!

I have a cane that I bought for my excruciating hip pain and plan on getting a wheelchair soon as well. It's absolutely okay to use mobility aids without your doctor giving you one/recommending one

Of course! My cane makes it much easier and safer to get around in public. You don’t need external input to do what is comfortable for you and your body.

Absolutely, if it helps you - use it!!

Anyone who shames you for needing reasonable accommodations like a mobility aid is ableist! Unfortunately there are a lot of people like that out there, but don’t let them stop you. If anyone gives you trouble, you can use the cane as a weapon and give them a good smack (kidding about that last part of course)

Absolutely. As soon as I started having trouble walking, I went to Walmart and bought one for $10. If someone has a problem with me being crippled, that’s their problem.

Absolutely yes! It's there to help you. You can buy it at a store, it's not a prescription. You don't need permission! Anyone can use one; whether it's temporary, some times, all the time, or permanent.

Make sure your cane is at a good height! You want make sure your shoulder isn’t elevating too much when you’re holding onto it or else that might start hurting too! Aim for about your wrist height when you have your arms down by your side!

If it helps you, it’s FOR you. If it makes you sad, consider looking for a fun one!
