does anyone struggle with unofficial diagnoses? (i don’t want to discuss the specific conditions, so i’m going to be a little vague) for example, one time i was screened for something by a psychiatrist who said “there’s definitely ______ there, but i don’t know if it’s enough to consider it a disorder” even though i have many symptoms and they’re affecting my day to day life. now i’m scared to be re-screened because i don’t want to be told that my symptoms aren’t bad enough. also, one of my diagnosed disorders doesn’t have it’s own condition so it put me under a different condition where one of my disorders is a symptom of the condition. my grandma has the condition and it’s genetic, should i ask my doctor about being screened?

I would keep pushing for one. Doctors are suppose to do testings/screenings when requested but they usually deny. If you ask to get a test done and they deny it, ask them to put it in your notes on what the test you requested was and why they denied it. Usually they backtrack and get you the tests done. You really have to be firm with doctors when it comes to getting diagnosed

Sort of. A doctor suggested that i probably have PCOS and its been a main thing for years now, still no testing for it :/

i have.. i struggle with asd (which i have included in my profile) however, my parents wouldn’t let me get tested because they deny autism being “real”. i’ve been told by most all of my psychologists and therapists that i have many symptoms and should be tested immediately. i understand the stigma around self diagnosing, however it is just my parents not letting me get diagnosed. recently i got a new doctor and i’m really pushing for a diagnosis or at least a second opinion. keep pushing!

If you’re ever uncomfortable with how a doctor handled your diagnosis, never be afraid to get a second opinion. I started having physical impairments related to a collagen disorder and ended up having to wait 8 years to get diagnosed because doctors always said I looked too “healthy”. I went to second opinions and third opinions and finally got my answer after a long time. Keep pushing! You deserve answers.
First off if your doctor won’t listen to how your symptoms are affecting you, get a new one. Second of all Selky I was misdiagnosed as ibs-c (well more so that something else as causing the ibs-c that the doctor didn’t check for) but I changed doctors when I aged out of pediatric medicine and the new gastro ran an emptying study or something like that to check for gastroperasis. Which it turns out I have. So if you are also having problems with GERD (acid reflux) and throwing up I’d recommend insisting on one.
