I am a stay at home mom, I have been since my first was born in 2008. Before that I didn’t need to work so I stayed home as a homemaker. I have many health difficulties but never applied for disability because we didn’t “Need” the money at the time. I became visually impaired enough about 4 years ago that I can no longer drive plus my pain conditions have gotten worse so I’m not able to do any where near what I could before, so now we could use the extra money and the secondary insurance would be nice as well. When I went to check the website for disability it says I am not eligible because I have no work credits within 10 yrs... I know people who have never worked that are on disability.. has anyone else had to deal with this? I feel like they are punishing stay at home parents if this is the case. I have work history from before I was married so it’s not like I have no credits. Just looking for advice before I begin to tackle this. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Like virgobaebee89 said get all the doctor/hospital records you can get. The more proof you have the better. The first time I saw a judge face to face his reason for denying me was because I didn't look him in the eye when I talked and he said I was "untrustworthy" I moved to Ky and got it in no time. I tried for 15 yrs in Indiana to get it! Oh yes, get a lawyer!

I don’t qualify for SSI or disability payments because my husband has too much wealth they said and I’ve been disabled since I was 19 and only worked for years of my entire adult life. We’ve been married 31 years and I’ve tried many times with attorneys helping
You’ll still be categorized as disabled if you get ssi disability payments. If you are just getting the state disability payments you won’t get approved if you haven’t worked within like 18 months or something like that and it is for a very short amount of time. Ssi is gonna keep paying out.
Ssi is based on household income and we don’t qualify for that. I am wanting ssd for disability. I can also get more options in my state for transportation if I am disabled.
Are you applying for regular social security or ssi? Two different things. I got ssi without any work experience.
