Hi guys—I am starting a new semester tomorrow and I am really overwhelmed. I usually get this way. I worry and obsess about every little thing (I have OCD). I try to focus on positives, but all that I can think about is worst case scenario, especially in social situations. I have been terrible socially since the pandemic and I have tried my best but I still get super anxious every time a big change starts. Any advice?? I have been feeling anxious all day and it is hard to relax.

I also have OCD so usually I make a checklist to keep myself in check and for my social anxiety I just take baby steps before I start a full on conversation

I understand your situation. What helps me is grabbing my wrist and breathing heavily.

Good luck with your new semester tomorrow :) if you know that you usually get this way, then you also know that you can get through it, because you’ve done so before for your whole life. I have ocd too and I tell myself that my thoughts are just stories in my head and that I have no control over what happens to me or those in my life. Big changes are hard and the pandemic hasn’t made it any easier- especially socially. I’m not sure that I have any advice but just know that you’re not the only person on campus feeling this way. It’ll hopefully get easier as you get more into the semester and if it doesn’t that is okay too, just don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Putting ice on the back of my neck and taking a shower are two things that really help me. And doing deep breaths for 10 min. Sending hugs
