@Anika5361 hi. Is there a test for PMR or is it a ruling out if other things diagnosis? I’ve been in pain and illness for 12yrs and I was out on prednisone for the first time last month because I had CoVid on Sept for three full weeks and was quite sick. So when I saw my rheumatologist last month I told him how much excessive pain I’ve been in and had shortness of breath and fatigue and malaise and he said he thinks I was in a flare up after CoVid for all these months so he put me on the prednisone. I felt like a new person. My pain was minimal. The shortness of breath went away. I had energy. It was wonderful. I went back in after two weeks for a hip injections and both knees and didn’t feel I needed the knees done. Had no real pain in them. He said the response I was having to the prednisone was indicative of having PMR and the only med for it is Prednisone. But they took me of the prednisone and put me on Sulfasalazine and after a couple weeks I’ve been going right back to how I was before prednisone. I’m just not sure what to do and I’m not familiar with PMR at all. Thx for your time and help. Hope you are doing ok. I see your post is from 11mos ago.

Can everyone share how they were diagnosed?

@Hfb bloodwork. Doctors don’t normally believe my symptoms until I bug them enough. 2 years later I have a diagnosis. Beats the 4 years it took to get them to believe my shoulder was in as much pain. I was then diagnosed with shoulder impingement syndrome..

@Hfb my mom has PMR. She and I were seeing the same Dr in a small town so he knew his patients and their families well. I had commented that I was having some of the same symptoms that’s my mom had so he did the testing to make the diagnosis.

I wonder why the doctors are so quick to make 50 that base age mark. We were all under 50 at diagnosis.

@K.C I don’t know . I guess because it says it rarely happens under 50, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t . Doctors imho are lazy

I haven’t been diagnosed yet, but feel I have GCA and possibly PMR . Rheumatologist says I’m too young (49) negative blood test and negative ultrasound (was in prednisone at time) rheumatologist wants me off prednisone so she can get bland done . I’m nervous it is GCA and I could loose my sight . Was on prednisone for 12 days and didn’t feel any better .
