I have recently been diagnosed with AVN in my hips and knees, but I’m 34 and doctors keep telling me I’m to young for treatment. Does anyone have any experience with surgical correction and does it get rid of the pain?

I’ve read through all of these comments. The first time I mentioned it to my doc, she referred me to a surgeon. I think I need a second opinion! I’m 33, want to put off surgery as long as I can, especially if it doesn’t eradicate the pain.

I was diagnosed in 2011. I was 27 when my right humeral head imploded reaching for the ceiling fan string. I had that replaced with a tungsten carbide ball. One year later, the same surgery on the left shoulder. One year after that, total left hip replacement.

@David84 I have to say, the pain is still there but it is tolerable most days.

I was diagnosed at 15 but begun having pain at 13. I underwent core decompressions on both hips between those years of being undiagnosed. The decompression took on my right hip and I haven't had many issues since but ultimately needed replacement in my left in 2015 (at 15 years old) still to this day I have pain in the replacement hip but very little in the right hip

Hi there. I was diagnosed with AVN of the hips in 2016 (45 years old). One was worse off than the other so they did a decompression. About 2 months after the decompression I fell and broke my femur. It is believed that the decompression weakened and possibly caused a hairline fracture which led to the break. I was in agony the entire time. I suggest putting surgery off as long as you can. The recovery and rehabilitation is tough, but so are you 🙏
