I really struggle with knowing my own mania has put me in multiple situations that have caused PTSD including rape. I feel guilty for it and often tell myself its my fault even if i cant control my mania or the people who did it.

Sorry you are dealing with this friend. Please know that your past does not define your present or your future. Each day you have a chance to be better than you were the day before. My partner has made choices earlier in life that I was appalled by when I found out later into the relationship. He is a changed person, no doubt. Has taken completely responsibility for his past actions and has made a complete turn around. That is so hard knowing “you” (your manic self) inflicted trauma onto another person, but they will be okay. Your job is to help the victim onto a path of healing, then, your work is done. Being able to forgive yourself is a journey in itself, but it’s the only way to release the shame.
