So I have weak knee joints that give out on me (as in…i fold on myself & hit the ground when walking😅) and often in a lot of pain, mostly my right knee. It gets worse with movement and hasn’t gotten better with physical therapy. I’ve really been thinking about using a cane to help take a load off and help support me, but i just don’t know if that’s like… acceptable i guess…?

I used a cane for almost a year, transitioned to forearm crutches, realized my issue was mostly in one knee and got a custom knee brace I wore for a year. I gradually improved my strength with walking and physical therapy until my knee was strong enough to not feel unstable. Kept up the PT then started with a coach at a lifting gym. We started with body weight squats a year ago and now I'm training for a powerlifting meet. Do what you need to, but also don't give up, building up muscle has been huge for me personally, but it takes a while. ❤️

Mobility aids are really helpful, but I understand feeling alienated in a way just by using one. For me, it helps if the item is more personalized, if you can afford it I would look up Cool Crutches or some other fun places so you can cutomize a cane. For a more discrete option, kt tape also really helps my knee caps out!
Don’t feel bad about needing to use a cane if that’s what keeps you mobile. I felt pretty insecure at first about using one periodically, mainly for bad pain days and days where I’m doing a lot of walking. It took me a little while to realize that by using the cane I actually have more freedom to do the things I want to do.
Two years ago I was completely immobile and had to use a walker and wheelchair. I promise using a cane is okay :) they even have some really fun ones online. If it isn’t working on helping your knee(s) then there are so many options. They have knee holders that keep them in place kinda like a brace. I hope this helps
