What do you personally think of trying hard not to be medicated? Do you think it’s an end goal only because of society?

For me personally i'm greatful for everything i take. I know i wouldn't feel like myself without it. It would be nice if i didn't have to to feel normal, but it's not the reality for me. I think for some people it's possible, but not everyone. I think it should be normalized that it is okay if you take meds, but there is a social stigma about it it seems. That's just my view point on it

the only thing that’s ever helped is birth control for periods haha! i’ve never found a real medication that really works for my conditions however i know it’s common. i have one parent for meds and one against them so it’s always been up to me whether i try them or not but at this point i just forget to take them, it’s hard because they really don’t make a difference to me as of what i’m on now

I have tried to do that for a long time and had seen a big improvement in my health just taking care of myself. For me, I tend to lapse when taking medications and stop being careful at times. However, the grueling self -care regime can be pretty taxing. Now I combine meds with my holistic self care routines to make sure I do not get super tired of any of it.

I dont think its bad to want to not have to take medication but i do think there is a societal pressure, especially with antipsychotics and antidepressants to stop taking them eventually. Not sure why tbh but ive seen a lot of hate for those kinds of medicines

Not sure I could keep my job without taking my meds, unfortunately. If I was able to sit on a beach and avoid as much stress as possible I think I could do it. I would like to get off of the meds someday though. some times I worry about society falling apart and I won’t be able to get my meds. I would have to ween myself off and it would be painful and make me more of a liability in an emergency situation.

I forgot to elaborate, it was my goal because i get almost 70% of side effects from meds. Clozapine gave me severe constipation. I had to go to the hospital because i had anorexia and the rehab wouldnt let me have laxatives. It makes my skin burn, it causes crazy salivation which doesnt sound bad until you fall asleep and roll over and choke on saliva only to find out that since you havent drank water in a while, its now clogging your throat, you can barely cough and you throw up to clear your throat. It Messed with white blood cells, weight gain (i mentioned im anorexic and body dysmorphic right), complete lack of energy, no motivation since you now lack dopamine, detached emotionless state, anhedonia, impotence (cant get aroused either), and the list continues. Why would anyone want to be on meds in general should be the question. No one wants to be on meds unless they have to. The people who say that they like taking their meds are just stating that they can’t achieve their desires without a prescription.

I guess it depends what youre currently taking, in my case everytime I have tried to get off of medication id manage to go about a year before things would fall apart and i would have to go back to treatment
