do your neurotypical friends get offended/hurt when you don’t wanna call? i don’t like being on the phone w my friend specifically bc he can be very rude, but also bc i don’t enjoy phone calls v much. i feel bad for lying abt doing something else or just saying no.

Yes, I have a very hard time staying in contact with friends. On some level I have had to accept that some people are very cool, and would like to be my friend, but I will not be able to meet their friendship needs.

Yeah, I'm semi-verbal / selectively mute and long spoken conversations can be very difficult/draining for me. I very much prefer texting and some of my friends are okay with having text only conversations, or having me text while they talk. But the sad fact is that most people don't want to speak to someone who's mute / "can" talk but not well. And I get the need for reciprocation, I get that it can be awkward to talk to someone who isn't matching your energy. It's just a matter of conflicting needs, I guess.

Yeah, the only person I can really call for a while is my partner because they are autistic too

i dont really have any neurotypical friends lol, but everyone knows i don't like to call and just kinda accepted that. my best advice, even though i dont fully understand your situation, i say to tell your friend why you dont like calling. you dont owe them anything, and if theyre still uspet it's their problem

also if he’s really not someone who you want to hang out with in general. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DROP HIS ASS. you have the agency to just make that call if it isn’t improving your life.

I do this with my neurotypical and divergent friends, I just feel like it’s just as draining being on the phone as it is to hang out. if you’re close with them you should probably explain to them why you don’t want to talk on the phone, it’ll make it easier on you than lying
