I take it and it works pretty well. Im pretty sure its the same units as the other ones.

When you got it prescribed, did your doctor first tell you to take a fixed number of units? Mine did and said to take 4 units 15 minutes before eating. But I realized that doesn’t work always. So now when I eat, sometimes I have to take more than 4 units, depending on what exactly I eat

No they didn’t give me a sliding scale. My doctor said to just take 4 units 15 minutes before eating. But I don’t see how that helps with everything I would eat. Since everything is different in how much carbs it has. So it would have to be a sliding scale depending on what I eat.

i’ve been using humalog for at least 6 years now in my pump. covering carbs like that isn’t really that effective in my opinion, like you said because it depends on what you eat. i have a set insulin-carb ratio in my pump settings so i just enter in my carbs and i know how much insulin i need. you really need a sliding scale to help determine how much insulin you need

i’m not a doctor, but if i were you and my doctor didn’t give me a sliding scale, i would try out different ratios to see what works for me. i’d probably start off with 1 unit=10 carbs.. idk what your body’s insulin sensitivity is but mine is really low so i’m at 1 unit=4 carbs

Yeah, that is what I did. I have started with 1 unit for every 10 carbs to see if that works. And it is working better than just doing the fixed 4 units.

that’s great! are you doing a ratio for your blood sugar too?

Yeah I’m working on that one also. Right now, I’m doing 1 unit to bring my blood sugar down 50mg. To see if that works and if it doesn’t, then I’m going to go to 5 units to bring it down 50mg

oh don’t bump it up too much.. adjust the mg number instead, like 1 unit for 30 mg
