I feel lost, frustrated, confused, and stuck. I am hoping someone might have advice on what to look for in a doctor. Note: I have not been actually diagnosed with endo, my primary doctor suggested I might have it. I started having very painful heavy periods about 5 years ago but my combined pill took them away until about a year ago the pain came back but also during ovulation and bad pms with several other symptoms that seem to be common with endo and continues to worsen. This summer I had the worst pain I've experienced along with 2 weeks of black discharge, the PA I was seen by examined me and claimed it was old blocked blood that had been blocked by tissue, blamed it on "anxiety." Frustrated I didn't follow up, with the pain continuing to worsen I went to my primary who suspected endo and referred me to an obgyn. After visiting the obgyn, she made me feel like I was overreacting and that painful periods/sex/ovulation/pms is all normal. I became even more frustrated because she refused to answer any of my questions regarding endo and instead tried to in a way make me happy and rush me out of the room by changed by bc saying "If you have endo birth control will take away your symptoms." She also told me that endo is when you ONLY have symptoms during your period so I am unlikely to have it. I did some research and feel like that's not true. I am 2.5 weeks into my new bc (extended release combined pill) and I'm miserable. I called and told them and they said the typical "it takes 3 months to adjust to a new bc, if you're in that much pain go to the ER." I don't know what to do, it seems like no one believes me or cares, unless periods/sex/ovulation/pms is actually supposed to be that painful?

I just want to say I relate to feeling lost and confused and like there’s no help! I haven’t been diagnosed either, but I have to just assume I am because I have yet to meet a doctor that takes me seriously.

Are those diagnosed with an ultrasound? I had a pelvic ultrasound done and it came back normal

Have you looked into fibroids? I have both endo and a large fibroid so its difficult to tell which affliction is causing which symptoms. My pain went from one day a month to every day and I think the fibroid has contributed to that

you're right, it's not true to feel like that or only on your period. the average amount of time it takes someone to get diagnosed with endo is 8-10 years. advocate for yourself and don't feel like you're being pushy or too much, don't let them make you feel stupid. pelvic pain is not normal. you should not have to just live with it. i'm working on advocating for myself too, my pelvic physical therapist told me to advocate for myself too, after having this pain for about 8 years and getting horribly worse the last two years. i've done pelvic physical therapy, been on gabapentin meds multiple pills 3 times a day, birth control to stop my periods for 2 years, and still in SO much pain and currently on my first breakthrough period of 27 days so far. advocate for yourself, i know it's hard, i'm doing the same, but advocate for yourself so much. if they don't listen to you, find someone else

I was diagnosed with endo the same time I was diagnosed with PCOS via pelvic ultrasound. My PCP at the time told me that she suspected endo due to my heavy, erratic periods, really bad cramps, pain during s*x, but the main symptom I had that screamed endo to her was that I got really bad diarrhea around my period. Whatever is going on with you, endo or not, it sounds serious. If possible try going to the ER or finding another OBGYN to go to. I know those things aren’t possible sometimes, but I really think you need another opinion. I hope you find someone who takes you seriously and helps you find answers and relief!
