I don't look "normal" since my TBI 35 years ago. I've kept most jobs for more than a year, but it is strenuous trying to keep up with the "normal".

Ultimately I quit my profession and found a less stressful part time job. Having several invisible illnesses can make it so hard to relate to others.

The job thing is tough. With my TBI, I found I didn't necessarily lose mental abilities, but the fatigue, sometimes fogginess and lack of stamina sometimes catches up to me. I am fine to a point, but getting overstressed, overworked or even just having one of those bad days and all of a sudden I just hit the wall. Just joined here 10 minutes ago. Looking forward to some great discussion, helping people and getting feedback from those who understand living with the lifetime effects of a TBI.

@Happy2behere i definitely try to just move forward. But everytime i have to go to physical therapy or get a migraine, I'm just reminded of what happened... I was beat for about 10 hours in my own home by a roommate, remember getting knocked out and waking up in like 5 different spots. No broken bones so all soft tissue which can be a real bitch. It was my decision that let him into my house, guess I couldn't even make a decent decision before the trauma. Lol. Funny not funny, I'm sure you guys get it, what can you do but try to make jokes and wonder how the hell can ONE night change your life forever. What a damn trip. Everyday..forever.. Sorry this got a little deepšŸ˜

I understand that I feel life's a blur of pain tolerance and traumatic treatment from others due to not being "normal" forget anyone that is not there to help you be a better version of yourself.

I struggled keeping jobs, dealing w migraines and my damn mouth for 11 yrs. Before getting diagnosed w the brain injury.. things made more sense after that, but then there was some denial, and now idk what state of mind im in.. frustrated and irritated, over a decade later.. blah

@nsiberian I recommend getting allergy tested. My allergies were so low but commonly found in a lot of foods. Any allergen in our diets and the swelling on our brains after trauma becomes so much more debilitating.

I do hold down a job, though I haven't for long stretches. I still struggle hard with my memory and things, though

Exactly. Or you get a simple, non complicated job and tell your boss you have a TBI and they seem understanding at first. But then call you out or put you on display when you make a mistake. Iā€™m grateful Iā€™m healing. But omg Iā€™m ready to be myself again. I know it will take time.

@LindsayLee you might never be the normal you were before you need to find a new normal

@kikki yes, Iā€™ve been surrendering to this concept.

@LindsayLee I hope you continue to heal and improve! Its been 16 years for me. I'm pretty sure I won't ever be the same.

@nsiberian Iā€™m sorry your journey has been so long. Donā€™t give up hope. I eat more anti-inflammatory foods and recently cut way back on coffee. It seems to be helping.

I always say that a I supposed to be normal gob with the slow flow of the minions working. It's hard to hold down a job. I understand. I lost my girl, my house, my great Danes. I am able to move forward with my chin up.
