I just had a doctor's appointment (my first one, I can't remember the last time I had one) and it started great. I got my height and weight checked and my weight concerned me a little. we started talking and it was great but when it came to the questions about my diet and eating habits I could tell I was getting irritated at the doctor even though she was only asking what she was asking in order to help me. after talking I refused scheduling a follow up because I was upset. after telling me she didn't feel comfortable letting me go without knowing I'd get follow up on my weight and eating problems we scheduled another appointment and she explained she didn't know how else to help me. after that appointment the only feeling I can pinpoint is guilt and I don't know why, I don't know if it's that I wish I reacted better in the moment or I wish I had gotten more into what concerns me about my health (the entire point of the appointment) and I didn't, or if it's the thought of finally maybe actually getting help for the things that I've been concerned about for a long time.

Sounds like the topic of weight is a tough one for you, and I don't blame you. Chances are that you may have had some bad experiences in the past, that this may have triggered. This could explain your reaction and it would be understandable for that to happen, especially if you weren't aware. As someone who has struggled to maintain my weight within the normal standard, or even generally overweight, I can appreciate how challenging it can make doctors appointments, where you may anticipate the critique from the general routine checks they do. I have tried everything, diets, exercise, counting calories, vegan, keto version, etc. and nothing seemed to work to the degree it was supposed to. I mentioned this and my last doctor (I chose for other reason) she was amazing. She listened to my attempted methods and then offered a different approach, the intermittent fast, which did help. At least long enough for me to move from the stressful situation (which likely contributed to my weight issues) and a new active job... Since then I have been steadily losing weight, and am even able to lose seasonal gains relatively quickly. I'm still working towards the healthy range (and even then on the heavier side), but I am still proud of the direction I am going. This was after having a do that wanted to monitor weightless and offer goals, or else threat of medication (which I was really opposed to). All this to highlight the many approaches to weightless, different factors that can play into weight and importance of finding a doctor that works for you and to see the whole person and picture... Rather than just the issue.

As someone who has suffered with multiple things for a long time going to the doctors is hard. Sometimes they look at you like your making it up or the times where they just seem to fob you off saying they can’t help you. It’s also tough going to them and admitting that you feel stuck and need some help. It will get better

It’ll get better. With time and actually receiving the proper help you need/want, you’ll start to feel amazing. Hang in there :) 🙌 💕
