Has anyone ever known or been acquainted with someone trying to lose weight that hears ADHD medications can cause weight loss so they just go ahead and assume they have it too?! It feels like she doesn’t respect my mental health and that she’s just doing this to fucking get the medication!!! She only started saying this bs after I told her I had it and took Adderall for it. She then googled Adderall and found it’s possible side effects including weight loss and now that’s all she wants it’s obsessive like a gosh darn drug seeker!!!

Had an old friend like this. For me, I told her that I refuse to give her anything because 1. I'm not a doctor and I can't diagnose or prescribe her with anything and 2. Adderall is a highly addictive controlled substance and I don't want to be responsible if she goes down a long hard path because I shared meds that aren't for her. People taking adhd meds without actually needing them can cause so many issues idek where to start. If it were personally me in your situation, set a hard boundary with her saying you will not tolerate being asked for the meds anymore. She goes the proper route and gets diagnosed and prescribed with her doctor. Warn if she continues to pester you especially now that you've set the boundary that you might have to rethink your friendship or distance yourself from her out of respect for yourself amd your mental health. I know that might sound harsh to some, but if it's what you feel needs to be done then all the power to you.

I’ve definitely met people who try to get adhd meds for weight loss. But I’m on adderall and still fat so 🤷🏻‍♀️

@aries02 me too!!! Haha 😂 I lost a little weight when initially on it but now because I take so many mood stabilizers and other meds that cause weight gain and make it hard to lose weight. But that’s why she refuses to accept she’s presenting as Bipolar 1 Disorder; She just doesn’t want to take meds that will make her bigger even if they do help with her miserable mood!

@CSweet94 my bipolar medication hasn’t made me gain any weight. However, when I was just being treated for depression lexapro made me gain 15+ pounds in just a few months !

Yes! I don't really remember which medications I took but I remember in the past and even now that those medications would make me lose a lot of weight and lose my appetite when I was a kid

That's infuriating because it minimizes the struggles of people who need it, not to mention that mind set is fatphobic There are much worse things in life to be than fat, and ignorant and disrespectful are some of them.

There unfortunately are people like this out there 🤦🏻‍♀️ I would let her know the drug is heavily monitored and not handed out like candy. I would also tell her that behavior like this can cause others who actually need it to have a harder time actually getting it.

@100Percent_K thank you, I’ve tried expressing it to her and I feel like she actually has Bipolar 1 Disorder (she exhibits ALL the symptoms of a Dysphoric Hyper Manic Episode) But she knows the meds for bipolar disorder can CAUSE weight gain and make it hard to lose weight. So, she just wants to have ADHD and is seriously OBSESSED About Adderall and getting it for herself. And she’s looking for the dose I’m on which is unfortunately the maximum because I have been on it a decade and my tolerance has gone up. This also feels like a slap to the face because I really am struggling controlling my ADHD rn and it has been hell, I have a psychiatrist Appt coming up to discuss further treatment options. But she wants to be on enough Adderall to send her into freaking cardiac arrest because she THINKS it’ll just magically make her thin and fix her MOOD STABILIZATION problems, which for her, would only get worse if someone was dumb enough to prescribe her a stimulant. I’m even warning my psychiatrist if she calls (because I did refer her before she became obsessed About the Adderall) that she’s been obsessing about acquiring this prescription. And that I fear she does have Bipolar Disorder and if she calls for an Evaluation that she’s unstable. Because I don’t want this woman to tarnish my reputation with my long-time psychiatrist all over the fact she’s obsessive about getting Adderall. Oh, plus she’s trying to get pregnant rn, so adderall is definitely a DUMB AF thing to try to get while trying for a child!!!! And she does have 2 girls under the age of 3 Rn and I’m scared because she’s so neglectful that if her kids got a hold of an adderall prescription that they could accidentally overdose on them because they’d mistake the colors of the medication for candy!!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO TO HELP HER?!?!?!

Tell her that eating healthy and exercising has the same effect she's looking for!

@Journey2Peace I’ve tried but she refuses to stop smoking to exercise and she refuses to eat healthy either, she just wants a magic pill.

@CSweet94 ain't no such thing! If there were everyone would be walking around in bikini bodies!

I seriously feel like a B slap to my face with her self diagnosing yet refusing to actually see a psychiatrist. I’ve even referred her to mine and she won’t see him! Like she’s so full of it it’s infuriating. Plus she wants to get pregnant rn, and you cannot take adderall while pregnant!!🤯🤦🏻‍♀️😩

Personally I haven't experienced weight loss with it so I feel like it might not even be worth it for her tbh. But it's going to be hard for her to convince a doctor that she has ADHD since it seems to be hard to get a proper diagnosis

      • CSweet94

        680d

@nekog she’s actually acting like a drug seeker obsessed with it and it’s like hella infuriating as well. Because I do have it and it’s miserable and adderall helps me but it doesn’t fix the hard work we all do with our therapists and apps like Inflow for ADHD and like Alike and all she wants is a prescription for a controlled substance that could legitimately harm her.

And good luck trying to find a doctor that I'll believe she has ADHD! Plus why would you pay for pills and see a therapist and lie and lie and spend money just to lose weight? That's just nuts.

    • Bridgette

      680d

Woahhhh well good luck for her trying to get Adderall when there's other affects than weight loss haha 😂 it can cause a lot more bad affects cuz she doesn't have ADHD !

        @Bridgette thank you!!!!
