my partner resents me since I've found out I had herpes, I've never spread it to anyone and never cheated (I think I got it when I was 16). I'm not sure how to tell him that it makes me really insecure and feel gross without making him feel bad

Tell him to get over himself. It’s basically a viral rash that is non-life-threatening. If he can handle that what would he do if you had a bigger disease. Is it just because of the stigma.? Another reason he needs to get over it. That’s not fair. It’s bad enough that the culture acts like It’s some great shame to carry around. You don’t need that at home

Be honest with him. If he cant handle full honesty due to a health condition. He shouldnt resent you as you have done nothing to hurt him. You disclosed to him that you have a disease and aren't sure exactly who gave it to you but youve always been faithful and that's that. Maybe see if he's willing to go to a therapist to help you both communicate about the issue further if there maybe any concerns or questions. I always found it helpful to have a bunch of facts to help answer those questions.

I am so sorry you’re dealing with these feelings. You aren’t alone. I know when I was diagnosed, I thought I could never find a partner again. I’ve been in two relationships since but each time, it’s a difficult conversation to have. Remember this does not define you, make you gross, or make you unloveable. It’s just something you deal with and truly gets easier with time as flair ups happen less frequently. ❤️
