My dr prescribed me spironolactone. It is a diuretic, but one of the side effects is hair thinning.

I have PCOS and I have done laser hair removal on my neck chest and part of my face a little over a year and I cannot tell you how much it has helped.

@Linnylou just want to chime in—I tried laser for chin/face hair. The hair is thinner from the 4-5 or so sessions I did complete, but I was unable to finish the course due to a combination of pain and my skin taking on color from the sun despite using SPF 90 and over sunscreen all the time. Living in Florida, I just couldn’t keep from tanning, and I got sent home from scheduled appointments. It was all really frustrating and, even with numbing cream, got pretty painful as they increase laser strength each session. I know people who have had great success, so this isn’t to say it might not work for you! This was also quite some time ago, so it’s possible they’re now better able to handle things like tanning, I wouldn’t know. Just worth being aware of potential factors/challenges!

@Linnylou With laser hair removal how many sessions did it take for the hair to stop growing back?
@inertplanetary I ended up having 9 or 10 treatments all together and I can tell a big difference. I still see a little bit that grows back but I had a lot of dark almost black hairs and I do see a few of those still but after the fifth or sixth treatment is probably when I notice it not growing back as much.
@Linnylou do you mind if I ask if any hair growth has returned? Or any new hair growth in the same spot?

@Wanderprone no I don’t minds at all. I do notice a little bit but it is so much better then it use to be. I was having to shave everyday or every other day now I really never shave if I do it is here and there w hen I would have to. and where I have gotten mine done they said since I have pcos I would have to get come in and do a treatment here and there unlike someone who comes in who doesn’t have pcos would not have to.

I've been through all the medications. Waxing and laser removal are the most comfortable atp for me. Shaving irritates my skin and creates ingrown hairs and break outs on my face.

@Ameerahcal yeah my chin looks really bad. I want to look into laser when I have the money

I’m not sure tbh. I’m on birth control right now and I have more facial hair than regular so I don’t think that it’s helping. It’s mainly helping me regulate my period
To be honest, none of them have helped me with the facial hair. The only thing that's worked for me has been finesteride. However, Spironalactone is apparently supposed to have a similar effect according to a study my doctor showed me.
