Hi, I'm new...just looking for a safe space to meet some folks in the same boat as me and see if we can work through some things together. Personally, current events both globally (the Russia-Ukraine violence) and locally (a distinct rash of violence, break ins, armed robberies, shootings etc) has absolutely been piling onto my pre-existing anxieties in ways that I don't know how to cope with. Short of burying one's head in the sand completely and a good all forms of media like the plague -has anyone had any luck with any coping mechanisms?

Same as @danipsych only thing that helps me is when I stop all social media and media in general for a while. It gets to be too much. Sometimes you just gotta bury your head. Until the media became a big thing no one really knew anything going on outside of their own towns or tribes. Nowadays we have so much around the world connection with no time to chill and just be with our own thoughts and issues that it can give us so much anxiety just going to the store or talking to a friend. I'm just rambling. I don't have a solution, lol. But I totally understand where you're coming from. So much violence is going on all around us. It's hard to see the good sometimes. I do think getting into nature is always helpful. Watching the leaves sway in the wind, or the cloud drifting by, or even noticing ants working and carrying food. Nature just makes me feel better.

If you need someone to talk to I'm a good listening ear. I can't really offer any help because I'm searching for the answer to cure my fears as well, but know you are definitely not alone in this world and you are cared about. šŸ¤—

Only thing that makes me feel remotely better is thinking about the positive change that has already occurred and the positive change that is currently being brought about. If you choose to have no hope you're only hurting yourself. As an empath & severely anxious person, I do often have to do media blackouts (no need to feel ashamed), I just try to stay social with my friends until I am up to being informed again. You are beautiful and valid and deserve better šŸ’•
