I've been ok with my A1C for years but so much is happening...the stress has my A1C going up dramatically. My Dr is trying to put medications on me to help me even says his last resort would be to put me back on insulin. I worked so hard to get off insulin since I hated how it would make me feel always dropping low. Anyone have similar frustrations?

You'll always have the biggest weight loss at first and then it'll slow down. The high fat of a keto diet is to give your body something to burn for energy rather than sugar, which you are now avoiding. I know of two people who were actually medically put on keto because they had fatty liver (both had significant weightloss). I don't know if it improved their fatty liver disease. They were very modest drinkers. My own experience was zero health issues from the initial rapid weight loss (initial weightloss is usually mostly water) and having a great blood test, with years of bad cholesterol going into normal/good and A1C going to .5 above high normal. Keto is high fat, very low carb (25 or less grams) way of eating, but you can also just cut your carbs to not more than say 100 a day. I'm doing low carb, some fat and lost 30lbs since last year so it's hardly a fast weightloss. I pretty much have a gym in my basement and I started exercising again the year 2020, starting at 20 minutes every other day and I'm up to 50 minutes every other day. I have a modified Pilates machine so I do a lot of stretching and core work, do a lot of leg, arms stretching, and arm work with free weights and I've just added kettle bells to get my respiration up. My goal is an hour 4x a week. I'm picking up some millet and other grains tomorrow from ShopRite and I'm going to attempt to make an oatmeal-like cereal (without the carbs of oatmeal) in the morning, because I do want to get more grains and fiber into my low-carb eating. PS I want to add I reversed the neuropathy that I was starting to develop in my feet the first time I did Keto about 3 years ago. My new low/lower carb eating came about because I was starting to get tingling in my toes, my feet, my hands and my arms and now that is down to an occasional twinge or two. Good luck everyone! I'm getting a blood test soon and I hope my numbers show dramatic improvement again!

Thank you GarisMoelp I try to listen to everyone opinions then make my own decisions according to what will work for me.my dietician at the hospital has told me to stay away from keto I do incorporate a balance of everything normally but with stresses just like you I've lost the balance somehow. COVID plus it's been stressful how our world is now but I also keep safe but I don't keep away from exercising despite Covid I just do outdoors and or at home for now.thank you for your input!

Also, keep in mind that 15 lb weight loss in six weeks is not normal and often unhealthy. Food alone should not be the source of weight loss. Exercises a must.

I would be wary of the keto diet because of the high fat content. I have been in the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet for years making less and good carb choices to address my diabetes. Last few years have been difficult with stress levels through the roof and constant change in medicines due to affordability.

Oh wow that's great. I've done low carb majority of time counting my carb intake problem is the stress from COVID to family issues my boyfriend was diagnosed with cancer then my own health it's been overwhelming. Trying to find a motivation I do have some but I'm not sticking to my usual diet due to the anxiety and stress. Chronic illness sucks. Wow 15 lbs in 6 weeks. I have to find ways to stay motivated. My main driving force is to be around for my boyfriend as I know he needs my love and support... keeping consistent is key. I will look into Lifesum and see if I have the same results as you do. Thank you for the recommendations! ❤️

Try the keto diet or any form of low carb (no more than 100 carbs a day). I use an app called Lifesum to count carbs and calories. I have lost 30lbs so far. I've tried a lot of apps and this is the only one I've stuck with. I use the free version. (No ads) When I went back on low carbs the stabbing, stinging pains in my feet, hands, and send reduced/stopped. BTW my first attempt at keto reduced my A1C to .5 above high normal and my cholesterol went into the good range and I lost 15lbs in 6 weeks.

🙏 I understand this. Please be cautious. I suffered 2 strokes in 2015. Though my original stroke admitted to ER was a hemorrhagic stroke (bleed) due to high blood pressure my Dr ruled out it was due to my diabetes as he stated ischemic stroke (blockage) is more common in diabetics. Have you talked with your Dr? I try to be an advocate and let people know surviving a stroke(s) is hard work very challenging though recovery is possible. I lost my speech and cognitive took me awhile to gain everything back. I encourage you to talk to your Dr about your A1C and high blood pressure ❤️

Yes! I was the same! I started Ozempic once a week, I lost weight and my A1C really got better. It’s a lot better than Insulin. With Insulin I got weight…

I’ve never been on insulin but my A1C and BP have recently skyrocketed and I feel so out of control. It sucks. I don’t know how it got like this.
