hello, for any other women out there (or other minorities) I am curious as to how you guys deal with doctors who don't believe you. before my official diagnoses, one of my earlier doctors told me "some people are just more sensitive to pain than others"

Who cares if you're more sensitive to pain than others? You're still hurting! Doctors who dont understand or care about something that basic arent doctors for the right reasons.

I had a similar experience where I don't think my dr took me seriously. I have HORRIBLE periods that make me cry just thinking about it and I told my dr and they gave me basic birth control. It works well but I feel like something else is wrong other than it hurts like a period and theres more blood then the average person. But I'm not a dr so idk... I feel like I'm putting a bandaid on something that needs stitches sometimes

OOH When I was in the psychiatric ward as a teen I noticed myself stimming and didn't know that was also a sign of autism, I had just assumed it was maybe adhd so my parents had me evaluated and they told me no, you can't have adhd because you focused well on the task at hand as if people with adhd can't hyperfixate on a task. I knew there was something bigger but because they only came to test me for adhd, and not even well, they just dismissed me entirely.

I understand your condition but maybe not all your specific symptoms. Despite that, I know what it's like to be told, "It's all in your head." Ironically half of my issues are. But the migraines I have, doctors I've seen wouldn't dig deeper. I've been living with instability in my Cervical Spine for almost 3 years and it took them that amount of time to do imaging to tell me what I already knew was there. It felt like they let my condition get worse, knowing that it was there, but not diagnosing and treating. Sometimes it feels like the system wants us to be in pain so that they can make their money off us. It took me two years to finally stop worrying about insulting a doctor by quitting being their patient. Sometimes one doctor's opinion isn't good enough. I've had doctors refuse to look at how my conditions interact with one another. My pain feeds off of other pain. Pain tolerance is a thing, but pain should never be taken lightly when someone is truly hurting. You know your body better than anyone. No doctor can feel how you feel. It's their job to help and if they can't do it, there's no point in seeing them. I know it's miserable to fill out new patient paperwork. I know it's hard sometimes to even find another doctor. I live in a small town and cannot drive. But you can't give up. It's not fair to yourself to let ignorant words get in your way.

I tell them where they can shove it, and find another doctor šŸ™ƒ Seriosuly though, don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. Or, if you're not in the mental or physical state to do that, take someone with you! They can help speak up for you when you can't.
