So..this is probably dumb I know but tomorrow I'm talking to my dentist about getting my wisdom teeth out. I somehow have gone 29 years without any surgery so naturally it scares the crap out of me. Because of my anxiety I have to be put under to get them out which, and I'm sure you already guess, scares the crap out of me. I just have a lot of anxiety about it and I'm sure you are probably thinking I'm ridiculous but I have no one else to talk about this with so I'm just posting here. I know it's stupid š¬

You'll be ok. Think about the positives and you got this!
I had my wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago (under general anaesthetic due to anxiety) and it went well. I can already talk perfectly fine and eat relatively normally. It hurt the first two days, but it wasn't the agonising pain I was expecting. I only needed some paracetamol and ibuprofen and it was really manageable. The doctors were so nice and explained everything so clearly as well so I knew exactly what would be happening next and they didn't make me feel at all foolish for being nervous and on edge. :)

Itās not stupid at all! I was completely and totally freaked out and scared when I needed to get mine done. Like someone said already, itās not exactly fun or anything, but it definitely wasnāt as horrible as Iād convinced myself it would be. Just be sure to communicate with your care team, and make sure youāll have some help for afterwards, and youāre going to be fine! But itās okay to still be scared/anxiousāI know I was, no matter what anyone told me
@aldrwytch thank you! I'm glad this will be my first surgery (hoping I won't need anymore š). My boyfriend had a terrible experience so I definitely needed to hear successful stories haha

I had my first surgery at 8 (appendix) and I've had at least a dozen more (two organ transplants). Being put under is not really all that bad. When they start the medicine to knock you out, it happens very quickly. One minute, you're watching everyone get prepared and then you wake up kinda groggy. I have to have my remaining 17 teeth removed and they're putting me under. I'm more afraid of what life will be like without teeth than the removal itself. And in general,I just don't like gong to the dentist's.

@drivingmsduckie my dad actually just had all of his teeth pulled! Chemo killed his. He was nervous about it too but he is doing pretty well. Speaking is a little different but not too much and eating is easier once the gums heal.
@drivingmsduckie I Dnt want to but I feel if I did Iād be betters off but im putting it off for as long as possible all though I want them changed out cuz I grind and have a habit of clenchingā¦
I put getting them out for many years and it honestly wasn't as bad as I built it up. If you have someone good to take care of you you'll be šÆ. I was really lucky and my partner took such good care of me. It'll be ok š good luck
@busy_bee thank you! That definitely made me feel better about it!
@busy_bee Also it looks really dumb but this thing was AMAZING https://a.co/d/iyvREwR
Hi! I had two wisdom teeth surgeries in high school and made it out perfectly fine, if that helps! Just a warning - they will be obligated to tell you about alllll the things that could potentially go wrong before you go in for surgery. Itās scary to say the least. Idk if this will help, but know that 99.99% of the time, nothing that terrifying happens. This surgery is done thousands of times every day and is often done on teenagers - itās a surgery many oral surgeons have done more than any other. And you donāt have to be awake for any of it! You just get to feel a little loopy afterwards (probably my first experience with being inebriated haha)! Iād make sure to ask your doctor any questions you might have and hopefully thatāll ease the process. Sometimes the anesthesiologists have methods to calm patients down too, since being nervous about a procedure is completely understandable! Good luck!
@Aubs27 hi! Thank you! I'm hanging on to the fact that I've known the Dr for years and he is good at what he does haha. Also thank you for that warning so I can prepare for that haha. I'm definitely asking to not be awake for it
Iāve had my wisdom teeth out and also have had a lot of surgeriesā-it is scary but you can do this. Make sure you mention your fears/concern to your dentist and also if you have some support (family/friends) that can help or be with you at the time of surgery
@Shadowcat13 I'm definitely hoping I'm making it worse in my head like I normally do and things turn out not as bad as I was thinking haha.
I was the same way. Because of chemo and radiation, my mouth on the left side completely dry rotted out :( I had to go in and get them all pulled and fitted for dentures I was nervous and scared so bad. I pick at my cuticles when anxiety starts knocking. It's scary as hell.. I was told to count the celeing tiles cause dumb as it is I helped calm me. Good luck!!
@Liz3152386 Oh and see if you can get a medience or laughing gas lol that helped me too
@Liz3152386 I couldn't imagine going through chemo and radiation you are so strong. My dad went through the same thing. He just had all his teeth pulled from chemo killing them. That might be why I'm so scared I've watched him go through so much that it I couldn't imagine doing any of that. Hopefully I will be able to get something to calm my ass down haha
