has anyone ever had a ADOS assessment as a adult/young adult? I have mine in a few weeks as I was referred into children's services as I was 17 but i'm now 18 and am finishing the diagnostic process as part of children's services.

I have, and lemmie give you the two biggest tips: 1, unmask, even if it's uncomfortable, even if you hate it, do it. 2, the tasks will be childish, ask questions, and respond without learned social queues. It sucks, and it is very possible to slip under the radar with ADOS, so please, just unmask.

Be VERY honest. Unmasking was alien to me when I went, so I was literally starting to drop the mask through the days of testing and evaluating. Everytime I realized that an answer I had given the Dr was not correct, I would email him immediately and explain. He understood completely and it helped my testing immensely. And lastly, don't sweat it! You are going in there for a service for YOU❤️

Yeah! I went through a similar experience. I was 18 and was still referred to the children's services just because there was no other options for me. What you're going through is so valid:)

I had ADOS as part of my autism assessment and despite masking and stuff I still got diagnosed so that's good

@Ysbryd ^^ yeah this is true especially if the person you’re seeing is resistant to diagnosing things! also – and this is v important – if you are asked about symptoms, pretend you don’t know that much! basically just try not to give indication that you’ve like researched extensively or have diagnosed yourself bc they’ll discount you!

@Ysbryd The Thing Is I’ve Been Masking So Many Years That I’m Nervous About Trying To Unmask
