My least favorite thing about my misophonia is the shame that comes with asking for accommodations--if I had a food allergy nobody would question me moving away from someone who is eating, but I feel like there's a double-standard if I move away from someone eating because I'm allergic to the sound. Maybe I should start telling people I have a sound allergy, lol.

I really understand you, I suffer so much from these things that sometimes I can't concentrate on anything else except the noise that really bothers me. It has also ruined a few relationships for me in the past after I just couldn't stand the noise and we had to break up. What I do is I always tell people who know me that there are certain noises that I can't hear because it really drives me crazy. I was surprised to find that most people took it really well and helped me by staying away. Also, there were times when I politely asked people to eat more quietly or somewhere else because it bothers me and I usually didn't encounter any objections. All you need is to simply ask nicely.
