I’ve heard about peppermint for ibs. I’m having a lot of cramps, but really don’t like the prescription anti spasm meds, they make me feel loopy. I’m new to having ibs-c so I really don’t know anything. How much does peppermint work and how do you take it?

@Minno honestly! 😅 I think these docs make stuff up as they go along. I hope the peppermint helped, if you tried it? I have friends with IBS and they get an Rx probiotic from their doc (has be shipped cold and refrigerated). It has helped them a lot!

I like giving myself a stomach massage with essential oils. I use peppermint, olive oil and castor oil. Works yo get things moving and relax and calms my colon

Hey there! I have no idea how much peppermint to take, but I wanted to mention I was diagnosed with IBS-C years ago. It turns out mine was being caused by endometriosis. If your cramps are worse at certain times of the month (between periods), it might be something to look into?

@TrixNY I’ve just had the opposite experience! Had laparoscopic surgery yesterday to diagnose endometriosis but they couldn’t find any, so now thinking I have IBS. I’m very confused😂

Peppermint oil capsules, such as enteric-coated ones, can help with IBS symptoms like bloating, diarrhea, gut cramps, and nausea. Make sure they are enteric-coated to avoid making acid reflux worse. Some over-the-counter products like IB Guard and Tammy's Tummy Tamers are peppermint oil-based and can help soothe the stomach.
