I’m a dysphoric trans man. I want to be on testosterone but when I get bloodwork done I have seizures and / or go blind for small periods of time. I don’t know why I react like this, I can’t control it. It isn’t safe for me to go to appointments where I get blood drawn unaccompanied and I’m learning that more and more people are just not okay with seeing me have seizures like that, and I guess I shouldn’t be either. My girlfriend is very anxious that I even still want to go on testosterone. I’m already 25, I feel like my options are disappearing, and I feel like I have a huge barrier to being taken seriously as a man because I don’t know if medical transition is tenable for me and that makes me so pissed. I want to be perceived as and taken seriously as a man and the thought of that being out of reach makes me feel so hopeless for my future as a trans person. How do I cope with this body?

I have a medical condition that prevents me from being able to take HRT as well. I'm still navigating my options. Also, I'm 28 and haven't started physically transitioning yet myself. My inbox is always open if you want to talk.

Hey! Im sorry you're going through all of this! The only advice or help I can give is.. don't worry about your age or time! I started my transition at 25 and I'm doing just fine. I know people who didn't start theirs until mid to late 30s. There is never a wrong time! Just make sure you're healthy ands doing everything in a safe way!

I would suggest trying to find the cause of the seizures and/or see if there is a medication or other treatment option that you can take to prevent it. Also looking into alternatives for the changes ypu want and trans support groups that might give you resources and support might help. As for feeling like you're running out of time, I know people who didnt get to start HRT till their 40s+ and still pass well and got all the changes they were looking for, a lot of it is based on genetics over anything else and while it works best earlier on doesn't mean it stops working or isn't effective later as well. I know waiting sucks and not being taken seriously as a guy is horrible but it isn't hopeless. My cousin (trans but woman) actually has pretty much the same thing going on and her doctor is helping her look into it to try to find a way so she can also get on HRT.

I've taken a lot of comfort in the Genshin fandom lately, since a lot of the male characters in the game have softer features (one of them even looks pretty similar to me) and are still fawned over by the fans as attractive and masculine men. It gets rough and I'll take a win wherever I can find it lol I finally mustered up the courage to overhaul my wardrobe with only men's clothes and I gotta say, damn does fit make a massive difference in overall shape. If you don't already, definitely go get yourself some slacks or a nice fit to cheer yourself up. It's worth it. If you ever need reassurance or validation, my dms are open. I'm newer on this journey myself but I'm happy to share any experiences or encouragement you'd like 👍
