this is a PSA announcement. if you are on a therapist directory online and you see the abbreviation "LCSW" or anything with an "SW", that means they are a social worker. "LMFT" means Liscened Marriage and Family Therapist. (they do not only specialize in couples counseling.) I highly recommend finding an LMFT who truly understands mental disorders, trauma work, and intergenerational patterns. That is, unless you think a social worker would do a better job at what you need. I'm not bagging on them I'm just saying, there's a difference.

I actually realized this is really biased and I apologize for it!! I didn't know what I was saying. Someone pointed out to me "Quality is more directly related to a person's dedication and adherence to the research-based training available."

@bumblebree That is very helpful thank you! We're trying to get a full mental diagnosis for my husband... We're just waiting for our Medicaid application to be accepted....... It should because we are 30% below the poverty line šŸ˜Ø

Also!!! LMFTs, LCSWs, and LPCs cannot do certain diagnostic testing like the MNPI (a very long and effective test for diagnosing many psych disorders) or neurocognitive evaluations (for diagnosing autism, ADHD, and cognitive impairments), so they may refer you to get diagnostic testing and come back, but they still are able to treat the issues these tests may find
