I see my gyno August 5. I want to ask her for a referral to see a pelvic floor therapist/ specialist. I'm so scared she'll say no. Most doctors never believe women even female doctors don't believe us. I hate that all my experiences with doctors have made me scared of asking for what I need from them. Why do they have to be like that? Anyway, any tips on how to bring it up, and what has worked for you in terms of getting the treatment you need vs what hasn't worked?

@Taybean my doctors have never had any idea. They thought I was just being difficult and exams were forced

I was lucky in that my primary care practitioner knew immediately what was going on and referred me to a physical therapist. She said that vaginismus is more common than is probably currently reported, and it is a lonely thing to deal with. So I’d say, just be straightforward with your gynecologist about your symptoms. They might test to see what hurts and where. If they don’t listen, they are behind the curve in taking this seriously, and I’d look to see if you can find someone else who is listening to women on this.
