Did anyone else have to cut back hours at work because of their mental health/go on disability for their mental health? I'm cutting my hours back drastically so I can make my own schedule and I'm considering going on disability because it's all just too much especially with the bpd and bipolar. I also think I may have ptsd. I'm struggling so bad and I would never feel this way about anyone else, but I feel like such a failure that I didn't do the great big things I wanted to with my life.

My doctor first cut my hours to 24 a week, then 2 weeks ago cut them all together. I'm going to apply for disability so I can focus on getting better.

This is exactly how I’m feeling right now. In my case, it was having to drop out of school in order to not overload myself, but recently I also had to quit a job for the betterment of my mental health. It feels horrible at first, but give yourself some time to be able to decompress. I’m mad that I may not reach my full potential in life, but I’d rather be living somewhat well (mentally) than to be in a much worse situation mentally trying to make ends that may not meet, meet. Like you said, you wouldn’t be like this to anyone else, so don’t let yourself be the exception. You’ve worked hard, and I’m proud of you for taking the initiative to cut back hours when you need it! Take everything one step at a time, and give yourself grace :)
@jipperoni thank you so much! I'm glad you're doing better! I already feel better after quitting my job.
I understand how you're feeling. I haven't worked since late 2016, and it's been great for my mental health and well-being. On the flip side, I sometimes feel like I could be doing more with my time and my life. I have to remind myself that I'm in a better place now mentally and emotionally because of choosing not to work anymore. Now, I spend my time helping my elderly mother and disable sister and daughter, and I wouldn't have the time to help them if I was working. I have come to accept that I have to take care of myself before I can care for anyone else.

yes! i feel kinda guilty about it but being on disability is definitely worthwhile if you need to work on your mental health. i also have bipolar disorder and bpd and keeping a job is very difficult. don't be ashamed to do what's best for you :)
@stormysundays thank you! I'm glad to hear it's working out for you!
Just did this a few weeks ago, it's going pretty well so far, don't be scared to do what you've gotta for yourself and state of mind
@Jaspernoooo I think I've decided I'm just gonna quit and do doordash or uber eats because they demoted me today.
you’re not alone. last may i had to quit my job bc my anxiety was so bad i couldn’t leave my house. my meds had stopped working and i had to wean off. terrible i just started lexapro and therapy again a few months ago and it’s slowly getting better. you will get thru this 💕
@calliecill thank you Lexapro used to work for me so hopefully it works for you!
