im starting therapy for the first time, and i’m dealing with emailing and consulting possible therapists to find the right fit. what are some good things to know when starting therapy? im going for many reasons, but ADHD and autism are two main factors. is there anything i should know going into it?

It's important to know that, even though you're going to therapy for help if your own accord, it's still going to take time to get to a point where you feel safe opening up about certain things and start to see progress. I'm doing DBT, which is helpful because it follows a chain of events that starts with addressing vulnerability so you can respond to stressors/triggers constructively, would highly recommend.
