I feel like I have all the answers for how to deal with my depression, but I just can’t put them into practice for some reason. (Probably because of the depression itself). I’ve been depressed for so long and it’s really frustrating- I feel like I’ll never get better. Any tips or anyone who can relate?

For most people me included it’s a very bumpy road to follow towards self improvement. A lot of trial and error is involved I find doing my hobbies helps

I'm not exactly sure what type therapy my current therapist is using. I've done CBT and DBT and art therapy in the past. Art therapy was not helpful for me, but the others were for different things at different times. My current therapist has been a therapist for like 20 years and he listens and does whatever he thinks will be helpful based on my needs during the session. We don't follow a schedule like is sometimes common with CBT. I'm not sure what to label it. Different types of therapy, and different therapists for that matter, can be helpful for different people, though. I've been to four different therapists off and on over the last three years and I've finally found one that seems to be working well for me. It can bea little bit of a trial and error process.

@unicorn can I ask what type of therapy you do? Is it CBT?

I can totally relate. I have done a lot of reading and learned a lot about what I can do to help myself, but knowing doesn't seem to be enough. What has really helped me is going to therapy. I know that's what everyone says, but it helps me because it gives me a sounding board and someone to be accountable to. It can also help me have the tools to get past the obstacles that are keeping me from doing the things I know will help me. It isn't always perfect, there are ups and downs, and I still have a long road ahead of me, but it has been helpful.
