I've always had "growing pains" and they just said oh she probably arthritis. Even though my mother had fibro. It took till I was 20 before my doctor finally said it. I definitely think I got it from her and have had it my whole life

I've had fibro for 27 years...my mom used to call me just lazy....until she started with pain in her arms...her Dr told her she had fibro...for years she had IBS and sleep issues. When she was given elavil her sleep and IBS corrected...those were her fibro symptoms...she doesn't call me lazy anymore...

I'm the first In my family with fibromyalgia. But as Quinee said I also think it's because the awareness has risen only in the last decade. I remember that my grandmother had chronic pain, maybe now she would have been diagnosed with FM.

Although I am the only one in my family who is diagnosed with fibromyalgia but I recognize very similar characteristics in my mother and her sister .. I think in recent years awareness has risen about the disease so more of us are diagnosed compared to the previous generation who simply came to terms with chronic pain without a medical 'title' …
My mom had chronic pain but she was never diagnosed with fibromyalgia. After I learned more about the disease and her manifestations I now think she also has fibromyalgia but she said it doesn't matter to her what the diagnosis is since it won't really help how she feels.

My grandmother was manic depressive and experienced episodes where "I hurt all over and I'm too tired to care". My mom had a stroke in her 40s and was misdiagnosed with MS while pregnant. Has weird fatigue spells. The short time she was actually taking meds well she was on cymbalta and pleasant to be around. Too many similarities for me to ignore.

My mom has suffered from undiagnosed pain. I remember my entire childhood her laying in bed after having another severe pain episode.

I know what you mean Fibrteacher1107... I had to take an early medical retirement from an excellent local government job because I was no longer reliable. I wouldn't have hired me!
Both my sister and I have it
I feel I’m unpredictable. One minute I’m all in to watch a movie. The next I have to lie down because of pain or exhausuo

I raised my now young adult children alone most their life, and having a mom living with fibromyalgia is something I wouldn’t know how it feels. My kid’s have definitely had to help out a lot more than most I assume.
My 20-something daughter is showing signs of Fibromyalgia. I wish I could spare her from a life of pain!
